Use third-party customer segments within Genesys Cloud

Genesys Cloud allows organizations to use customer segments that are defined and managed in third-party systems such as Customer Relations Management (CRMs), Customer Data Platform (CDPs), or marketing platforms, by reflecting that segment membership on external contacts in Genesys Cloud.

In this model, the external system remains the source of truth for segment membership, while Genesys Cloud stores and exposes segment membership so that it can be used across the platform for routing, orchestration, analytics, and agent context.

How third-party segments are represented in Genesys Cloud?

Third-party segments usage with Genesys Cloud follows a clear separation of responsibilities.

  • Customer segments are defined and evaluated in an external system, while Genesys Cloud stores and exposes segment membership for use across the platform.
  • For each external segment, a corresponding segment must exist in Genesys Cloud. The customer maintains the mapping between the external segment identifier and the Genesys Cloud segment ID.
  • When a customer enters or leaves a segment in the external system, the external system resolves the customer’s identity in Genesys Cloud and updates segment membership using public APIs. Once assigned, the segment is treated the same as any other customer segment in Genesys Cloud.
